Sidewalk Repair and Replacement in St. Joseph

In St. Joseph, the sidewalk in front of your house is yours to fix. That’s city code, Section 25-77. Before that ruins your day, read the next block, because the city may pay for half of it.

Because that’s how the code reads. Section 25-77 of the St. Joseph city code puts maintenance of the sidewalk fronting your property on you, the owner. The sidewalk is public; the repair bill is private. Nobody loves it, but arguing with the code doesn’t fix the trip edge. The reimbursement program is the city’s way of meeting you halfway, literally.

A raised lip
Where one slab settled or a root pushed up: sometimes the fix is grinding the edge or lifting the slab, not new concrete. Cheap, quick, and honest when the slab is sound.
A slab cracked clean through or crumbling
Repour that slab. Sidewalks are poured in sections for exactly this reason. You replace the bad squares and leave the good ones, the same section logic as a driveway repour.
A root still growing under it
Deal with the root question first, or the new slab heaves the same way.
